Ethekwini Municipality Water Affairs contacted Spilltech looking for assistance with an urgent clean up in the Prospecton area.
A company along the riverbank had a spill of ±35kg of red ink pigment, which had entered the storm water drain and was heavily contaminating the river where the storm water drain led.
Lin Gravelet- Blodin from Water Lily Consulting was contracted to site to assist with and advise on measures that needed to be taken to ensure an effective clean up took place.
Contaminated Water
Immediately after arrival on site, Spilltech teams were positioned in strategic positions along the river. These response teams set up various pumps to pump out the contaminated water.
High Pressure Cleaning
Several areas inside the plant required high pressure cleaning to remove the stains from the red pigment.
After the river and area inside the plant that needed to be cleaned was done, the drain line was flushed through to ensure no residual product could contaminate the river again.
